I need help (and encouragement) to finally quit my job

I have been a part time receptionist for quite some time. I have an opportunity to be mentored in a career that I have always wanted, however it conflicts with my current schedule. I have been very flexible with this company, but have not received flexibility with my schedule in return. Anytime I try to take off, I am met with frustration or some sort of conflict I was not aware of. We are short staffed and my boss takes off whenever they want to without telling me. They also schedule me out over a month in advance. I have barely called out or taken time off in years. My training doesn’t start until September, which is our busy season. I know that I will not be able to be a receptionist here and also go through training for a career I so desperately want. So I want to quit.…

So I want to quit. I am willing to give them a month to find a replacement. I am willing to train them as well.

I am concerned about a couple of things:
1. I have never written a resignation letter. I am not great at writing so I’m concerned I will sound like a dick or just dumb.

  1. I’m afraid of any kind of retaliation from my boss. They are not good at hiding their feelings. I have seen them mistreat my last coworker who they ended up firing just because they didn’t like that employee.

My biggest fear is that my boss will become nit-picky and find a way to fire me. I will not have my PTO paid out to me if this happens.

I want to know what can I do if this happens and what I should write in my resignation letter.

Sorry if this is vague I have left out any identifying information and then some. I am terrified of anyone from this company seeing this and knowing it’s me.
