I've been a phlebotomist for 4 years and currently make 40k, but some of that is the mandatory overtime I work. My salary without it is 37k. I also donate my plasma twice a week for grocery money, so all and all I sit on 42k a year. I'm a sole provider for myself — no one but me in my household. For me to get by, I need a wage of 42k a year. And this really isn't giving me any room for savings or emergencies, but it'll get me by.
I need out of healthcare. It's killing me. The patients, the management, the workload, all of it. I'm looking at my options outside of the field but I absolutely cannot take a pay cut. I also can't afford college because…well, read the above. The only reason I got my education for phlebotomy was because at the time I split my bills with my former boyfriend.
What are some jobs I can look for that'll get me a means of living? So far I've applied for things like grocery store management, but no bites. And I've looked into data entry but there aren't any jobs open for that kind of work.
I can't do physical labor like warehouse or construction. Another reason I'm looking to leave healthcare is because I've developed arthritis in my hands and it's worsening each year. I need out before I can't do it anymore.
