In my job, I’ve been told no to a raise because “we don’t have the money for promotions,” when I make company purchases more than double my paycheck on a whim, and OFTEN, for items that we replace within the year. I get paid $37k and the National median for my position is $65 without HALF of my responsibilities. Also, even when I’ve gotten a raise, it’s equated to about $2-$10 more a paycheck. Which is a slap in the face…
I also got a review after coming back from a medical leave that said I was doing poorly, even though I was gone for half of the review period. I found out they decided to include time before the review period before I went on medical leave where I was experiencing medical issues and had to take time for myself. I’m pretty sure it was all to avoid owing me a raise (because you don’t get a wage increase if your performance is viewed as poor), even though it would only be $2-$10 anyway.
My raises over SEVERAL years don’t account for the cost of living increases just in the last few months. Gas has more than doubled in price in my area, and my family and I have live paycheck to paycheck, while other people in the company complain because their dinner at their hotel was “sub-par”. Make it make sense…
I feel super stuck living in a rural area…there isn’t much out here. Not sure what else to do, since I’ve been applying elsewhere and have found nothing.
