I picked up some shifts at my old workplace and now I regret it.

I’ve been a stay at home Mom now since the first lockdown in 2020. To help my husband with bills and for extra cash I have been working an AWESOME catering gig 3-4 days a month since august of last year but it’s now the “slow season” for catering events. Since I’m not scheduled to work another event there until April 30th, I thought maybe I should see if I could pick up 1-2 shifts a week at the old dive bar I bartended at pre-covid. I thought about applying somewhere better but the thought of going through the new-hire process at some new place just sucks. I’m not a big fan of this bar, the customers aren’t very nice and there’s a lot of drug use in the bathrooms and back patio. I had to kick some idiots out at least once a week when used to work there.…

I thought about applying somewhere better but the thought of going through the new-hire process at some new place just sucks. I’m not a big fan of this bar, the customers aren’t very nice and there’s a lot of drug use in the bathrooms and back patio. I had to kick some idiots out at least once a week when used to work there. I also found a bag of meth that a customer had left ON THE BAR after I closed up. I feel like working there greatly increases my chances of being shot too… There were two gun related incidents in the short time I worked there from December 2019-April 2020. The pay is also only half of what I make while catering. BUT the owner is nice and it’s one of the easiest places I’ve ever bartended(very slow-paced, non-stressful work, no cooking, easy closing routine, no cleaning.)

They told me I can take the Saturday afternoon shifts, 1-8. Cool, okay. Then they told me I’ll have to come work a shift this Wednesday to “retrain” me since it’s been so long. Now I’ve already been asked by another employee if I can cover her Friday night shift. They also seem to be hoping I’ll pick up Sunday morning shifts.

I haven’t even had my first day back yet and I’m seriously regretting signing up for this. I want to tell them I changed my mind but that would be a dick move on my part. I feel like I’m going to end up working way more hours than I want to just because I don’t want to screw anyone over. FUUUCK.
