We all hear the usual addage of starting a business and how “anyone” can do it. Well, it is all a lie.
I have started a business, it is going great, and things are better than my old environment, but there are hundreds of reasons why this won't work for everyone.
Here is five but the list goes on and on:
-
It is not feasible for all fields and areas of interest without enormous wealth
-
It requires extreme financial risk and uncertainty. For some parents it is impossible for this reason alone.
-
It is very stressful and technical. You have to be good at many things for a long time before you can get assistance
-
Many people just dont like this kind of work. They prefer direction and simplicity
-
Even if everyone was able to do this, competition would be overwhelming between all these companies. No seller would be able to break through and build a clinetele in such circumstances
My point being, people who think everyone can just start a business or all crowd into one particular industry are imbeciles and very ableist. Any solution to the problems highlighted in antiwork will need to address systemic issues over entreprenerial fantasies.
