This past year I was promoted. I was not given a pay increase. When I signed the paperwork, I asked my director about it. She told me the promotion was a lateral move, and they didn’t have budget to give me an increase yet. She promised she would try to get an increase come merit in March.
In March I got 3%. When I asked about the wage increase I was told merit is not negotiable.
I asked about our meeting, gave the exact date when she said she was going to get the increase, and if she even tried to get it for me. She told me she did not remember the conversation and refuse to answer if she even tried to get budget for me.
I sent my resignation an hour later. I don’t have a new job lined up yet, and am terrified of that – but also so relieved. Never have I been able to stand up for myself, and this was the last straw.
I would have given 2 weeks, but they no longer pay out any PTO when you go.
I’m taking the next couple days to reboot, and then hitting the pavement to find a new job.
