I applied for a job at the college I graduated from. This is a job I was very much qualified for, as I was already working a contract job that had me doing 90% of what I would need to do for the job I applied for.
The interview went really well, and I even went all out with a new, professional outfit. The interviewers and I had a great rapport, and I already am on great terms with all of them as I have worked with them for a while.
Turns out I didn't get the job. The person who got it instead of me? The daughter of the receptionist in the department I applied to.
We were hired for the contract job at the exact same time. We have both done a variety of events, however I have actually done three times more than she has.
I'm really upset, tbh. I really wanted this job, thought I would get it, but nepotism means I'm still job hunting. The person they hired instead of me lives at home, pays none of her own bills, and has full familial support. On top of that, her mother working at the college meant that she got heavily discounted tuition.
I, on the other hand, live alone, have no family to rely on, pay my own bills, and have student loans to pay.
Nepotism resulting in me having to continue struggling, to continue existing without basic necessities, really upsets me.
