As we know, the US political system is dominated by small, low population states with disproportionate representation in congress. The country’s largest and most densely populated areas are filled with younger, more progressive people, and for many of us, our votes count for a fraction of what a person’s vote counts somewhere like North Dakota or Wyoming. Unfortunately the kinds of jobs that young, progressive people tend to do are concentrated in these densely populated areas.
With work from home, we can do those jobs anywhere. Los Angeles, Manhattan, Fargo, Juneau, wherever and expand our voting power. Corporations don’t want that. No matter how progressive companies like Apple and Google pretend to be, they will always want politicians in office who will keep them profitable. Even if it costs them a few thousand dollars to fly employees to more free states to medical procedures or a few million to keep the lights on at a huge office building in San Francisco.
