Tl;dr: Title explains it really.
I've been working remotely with another company for 2 1/2 years now but the real estate market dried up and so did the money. I'm a 1099 with said real estate firm, so I just report my hours when there's work. I started looking for another job locally until real estate picks up and I can switch back to working with them full-time and it just so happens to be a federal job. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep the real estate job, but I learned VERY quickly how painfully slow and disorganized govt systems are and 2 months after starting I still don't have my secret clearance to do my job. I'm spending most my days doing menial tasks as the pop up and useless required training but not much else. And that's all that's expected of me.
So, instead of coming home and taking care of my remote job after hours, I just do as much as I can on my phone while at my desk. I felt bad in the beginning, but that passed quickly. There are only so many ways you can ask if anyone needs any help with literally ANYTHING and be told NO, before you dgaf.
I'm actually using accrued sick time today to work my remote job that has started to pick back up. I guarantee real estate will be viable enough again here soon that I can leave the fed job before ever getting my clearance. But I'll wait until I have enough leave earned so I can take that paid vacay first.
