I work as a lifeguard at a location that rhymes with billa zport. (Texas btw) I have been working there since before summer started, making around $9.75 per hour. however just today I have been made aware that there are several people making more than me, notably a new hire who was brought on with a starting wage of 10.50. I know its not a significant difference but it still pisses me off because this is a large company and I just wouldn't know how to ask for a higher wage. well I talked to my coworkers and told them my plan. I would email my manager and tell him I request a new wage of $13.50 for all of the lifeguards.
So I send a long email listing all of our complaints yada yada and i get a response no more than 30 minutes later telling me to keep quiet and that conversing about pay is wrong and that “hard work will be rewarded”. Of course me knowing my rights I know they cant fire me discussing wages but hard work will be rewarded? My ass. Yes it is petty but I am a petty guy and I need help with this. how I can get me and my coworkers a raise? I am aware that worst case I maaaybe could organize a little strike perhaps? Sure this is a summer job and all but I seriously need for this to happen.
