I worked at a local company for nearly 4 years and was fired Friday. I started in events and sales and excelled, eventually I was moved to office admin in a new branch of our company.
I've never had a traditional office job and was very up front about my skills, but I was reassured that I'd have help learning and wouldn't be on my own.
A few weeks ago I had a meeting with HR that they felt I was having trouble with communication and it was something they wanted me to address. With a follow up meeting two weeks away.
Again at this point I HAVE NOT RECEIVED TRAINING. Our meeting was 10 minutes of HR asking me how I feel and then having me sign a paper saying I was “coached”
At the follow up I knew something was wrong, and HR basically said that it wasn't working and that all the training I received wasn't sticking. Because of this I was not a good fit for where the company was headed.
This company used my degrees to get graphic design and art for the different branches of the company to use at events all while paying me minimum wage, and then set me up to fail by making me do data entry and giving me inadequate training.
At the meeting I was told I “could work for a few weeks till you find a full time job.” And I turned them down and asked them to mail my check.
I've gone scorched earth and removed all contacts and shared files connecting me to them. But im still so hurt by everything.
Then today the owner texted me that they wish they could have been at the meeting but it was a long day for them and they wished I would have taken their offer to work a few weeks but “understand” why I didn't.
This is just a huge reminder that your boss isn't your friend I guess, I know there are better opportunities for me, but im definitely having a self care weekend.
