This one came out of left field for me I wasn't expecting this, but as the title says, I was fired because my referencing had gaps, periods where I was unemployed.
In the case of this job, I had to provide a record of all my previous jobs within the last 5 years, And I had gone without employment for a couple of months, for any period of time you was not an employment you were asked to list why from a list of dropdown options including learning as a student, self-employment, injury or unemployed.
I went for the interviews, I was hired and I had been working for 2 weeks.
I was working this day when I was called into the office, and I was sat down by two women from HR who explained that;
“Your reference wasn't up to the company standard and there were periods where you are unemployed. and we have to let you go. As of this point your employment with us is terminated.”
I was escorted out and finally, over the confusion and shock I asked the woman to repeat again why I had been let go and asked for permission to record the reason.
I've never experienced anything like this before.
