I was overpaid at my job

Hello everyone, I work in the state of Maryland at a pretty big satellite communications company. My job recently did an audit of my pay and determine I was overpaid nearly $1300 due to an issue with night shift differential pay and weekend shift differential pay. My job is unionized. However, it seems that everyone in my team is just accepting these numbers at face value and are agreeing to repay the amount they owe. I have already reached out to my shop steward for suggestions on what I can do to ensure these numbers are correct but wanted to hear if anyone had any tips on what I can do. Would reaching out to my states Department of labor be worth it? What can I do to independently verify these numbers? Thanks for taking the time to read.
