Good day reddit specialists,
Apologies in advance for this post. It meanders, waxes, and wanes. I have been following this sub for many moons and I have finally joined your ranks.
I am currently in Chile, my favorite place in the world. Company is US based.
My boss informed me that he expected me to cut my trip short and return to the US tomorrow. Logistically (PCR test, Rental car, travel, and flights) make it impossible to accomodate this schedule. The fact of the matter is that my company went behind my back in a very not subtle manner and are “restructuring”. I called my boss and blatantly asked what his intentions were as I could see he had no intention of me assuming my duties on return. He stuttered, told me to come back and then ghosted me. He did mention he wanted me in a lower tier position. I told him I was not interested in a different position and would be pursuing employment elsewhere. Im an overachiever and spent the last four weeks without any days off. I kicked all the ass I planned to and can leave this company (which I love) without any guilt.
Any tips on how I can inform my boss that I have no intention of returning from this trip?
I can't hit the schedule he is asking for and after consideration, I see no reason to push myself to accommodate. Small company and so all of the logistics have been handled by myself. Tickets, insurance, etc are in my name. Costs are either on a company card or will be reimbursed.
I'm not leaving Chile for another week. At my own expense.
I won't be returning to work (I can't even begin to describe the levels of disrespect that led to this but some points are shown). Company was acquired by an investment firm prior to the pandemic. The changes implemented were not considered against the actuals and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been lost from our margins and a huge impact on our quality.
I am fully protected as I document everything and the costly failures were identified and projected.
These nerds are using me as a scapegoat to smooth over customer relations (my suggestion cuz its a sexy move provides major benefits at no cost). Of course, this should only have been done on the front end and internaly nothing will ever stick. I'm not a smart man but I made extensive use of Google and r/excel to automate three departments. I'm really looking forward to when they fall to disrepair in a couple weeks. F**# this post is getting long.
I don't want there to be any possibility of lawsuit
I'm drafting a final letter to tie up any loose ends and reddit has always been reliable for additional opinions.
Today I am returning my rental car and summarizing my expenses.
TLDR (think that's the format)
Company has treated me poorly and this final straw has me wanting to sever all ties prior to leaving Chile.
Looking for advise on how to make this as complete, lucrative, expedient, and professional as possible. This company has been my life for years and it's time I pursued my own goals.
Kind regards,
Harvey
