I was shorted $700 on my latest paycheck from my large Public School employer. How can I respond?

TLDR: There was an error in approving WFH hours which resulted in me losing 3 days of pay. Is there anything I can do to be petty/get the money back before my next paycheck? Full story: I work at one of the largest public schools in the US. They offered a very rare 3 days of WFH to us in my last pay period. I utilized the opportunity and submitted my time accordingly. It was never approved. I believe my manager is one of the people at fault as they did not approve the hours, but my manager is genuinely an amazing, supportive person who is also overworked. Thankfully, my bills are paid so I will be OK. However, I am cutting it extremely close on my credit card balance and in general am not in a position at the age of 25 to be OK without $700. I am also going on a vacation this coming weekend where I was obviously expecting to have a full paycheck.

Is there anything I can do to get the money back sooner than my next paycheck? Also, anything I can do in general that many people aren’t aware of? I was having extremely petty thoughts about requesting interest on the lost wages last night which got me thinking about asking this thread what to do, lol. Again, I am not trying to “stick it” to my manager, who is also overworked, and even offered to give me cash out of their own paycheck until HR settles this.

Thank you to anyone who has a suggestion! We’re all fighting the good fight and I love this community. Fuck capitalism!
