I was threatened by manager with a write up for not coming in to cover someone else on my day off in a half hour argument on phone

Title says pretty much all. I had the day off, was contacted to come in to cover a shift, and was argued with and coerced for literally a half hour. During that call I was told: • I never cover others shifts (I do) • Responded to me saying she was being unprofessional by playing into whataboutism and pretending she was “sticking up for other employees” to make me look like a dick • I “demand” others cover my call ins and complain about them. I dont. Ive said multiple times before to coworkers they have the right to say no to anyones requests to cover them, mine included. She provided no examples of me complaining about people specifically when asked despite saying there was camera recording • Said I shit talk her at work (Again, no examples despite recordings apparently existing, just using complains I made about the JOB…

Title says pretty much all. I had the day off, was contacted to come in to cover a shift, and was argued with and coerced for literally a half hour. During that call I was told:

• I never cover others shifts (I do)

• Responded to me saying she was being unprofessional by playing into whataboutism and pretending she was “sticking up for other employees” to make me look like a dick

• I “demand” others cover my call ins and complain about them. I dont. Ive said multiple times before to coworkers they have the right to say no to anyones requests to cover them, mine included. She provided no examples of me complaining about people specifically when asked despite saying there was camera recording

• Said I shit talk her at work (Again, no examples despite recordings apparently existing, just using complains I made about the JOB i.e. low pay as shit talking her)

• Said I cannot legally discuss pay with other employees, then admitted one of our workers gets paid more than some of us for the same work

• Worst of all, tried threatening me with a write up for not covering others call in shifts on my days off as “insubordination” and “not being a team player”. When I explained that is illegal, she denied it, and continued to threaten that.

So yeah, after she hung up, I got in contact with a older job with plans to move back there for better pay and higher professionalism. And even they had a roadblock in that the owners dont like hiring men with long hair, but allow girls to have hair of the same length. Thankfully, the actual lady in charge said she would hire me regardless.

Thanks for reading my rant. I just dont really have anyone to talk to about this, and this is the place to document this kind of stuff. Nobody should have to explain to the manager of a store they cannot write up somebody for not coming in on a day off. We all deserve better than that.
