Antiwork

I was under as an independent contracter busting my ass doing employee work.

I worked for a company and went through hell working there for at least 4 months. It was a warehouse job and I was just in charge of maintaining it. (Cleaning, organizing, heavy lifting, driving a forklift). My boss said that I'd be under a 1099 until he gets me fixed up as a W-2 employee later into the job. He never did. I kept asking & he would tell me that I would have to drive to their company's HQ (2hrs away) & have me trained for 1-week straight. (So I either had to drive everyday or stay at their HQ's city) He mentioned that at one point I would have to bear-crawl for a physical test during their training. He totally made it sound indesirable to become a W-2 Employee. It started with me working just 8 hours a-day and and then my boss started asking me to…

It started with me working just 8 hours a-day and and then my boss started asking me to stay for 10 hours a day. They even had us use our own vehicles to deliver materials w/o reimburment of gas. I wasn't happy, but I was jobless for a month prior, so I didnt want to lose my new job.

They warned about how they have a lot of business in August. So me and another fella started working together. I shit you not, most days were 14-19 hr days. Where we slept for 3-5 hours before we had to go back to work. I wasn't able to see my girlfriend at our apartment where we lived together… for days & weeks. It was just.. a nightmare.

This went on for the whole month of August. In Texas, where it's just brutal with the humidity & heat.

I wanted to quit so bad, but I didn't want to be jobless again. I was feeling fucked over from the missing overtime pay I could have been getting if I was a W-2 Employee. My health was depleating & my sleep.
I finally left when I found a lesser paying job.. it was my chance to quit.

Now that I'm doing my taxes… i'm getting no tax return. Instead i'm being asked to pay for taxes because I was under a 1099 NEC for that job.
I don't know what to do to. I feel like I got dupped. Is there anything I can do?
