I was written up for standing up for a coworker.

A bit of background, my manager is a self proclaimed “eccentric” or regularly makes inappropriate comments to staff and chalks it up to being “a bit of a character”. Yesterday at lunch, he started picking on a new young female colleague. He was asking her if she was going to see her boyfriend later and “does he know that you flirt with your manager”. Now he has made comments like this to her before, her face goes red and she has to leave the room with embarrassment. She has expressed to me that it's her first “proper” job and she doesn't want to kick up a fuss etc. Yesterday when she had to leave the canteen with embarassment again I saw red and said something along the lines of “cop the fuck on to yourself and stop picking on your own fucking staff”. Then this morning I see an invite in my calender to meet with HR, I think it is something to do with the funding I wanted for a course. I go into the meeting room and a HR admin is there with my manager issuing me my first warning. They didn't want to listen to my side at all, saying I was out of line.

I have been here 2 years so far, I have had messages from recruiters but hadn't thought much about leaving, I think now is the right time.
