Guys I need to RANT.
I graduated in 2020 and have a degree in healthcare. I was so excited to start my career as I genuinely love what I do. But my line of worth in healthcare is a bit smaller so its harder to find permanent jobs in stable companies (e.g. hospitals) and most positions are in small private practise companies.
So I have gotten jobs in private practise and just been screwed since day dot but this new employer is really making it awful.
So the position was advertised as 3 days a week but then when I got the contract is was casual. I just assumed it was this way so they wouldn't have to pay sick pay. For the first few months I worked 3 days/week and it was fine.
Anyway I am not in charge of booking patients or anything like that but they are booked in for me to see them. However, we have KPI's and on some days when there aren't enough patients to book in they will just say okay work a 3 hour shift instead of 8, or just don't work today go home etc. Or most recently I went to an aged care facility to work and they were in lockdown because of covid and so I called my boss and she told me to just 'take the next two days off' so I went home and didn't work for two days. And this isn't a one off, there was a whole month where they didn't need me to work because their contract with an aged care facility ended (they knew it was ending, why didn't they line up other work??)
And now its happening again I keep on getting shifts cancelled/reduced hours literally the day before/morning off, so these shifts are put in the calender and then changed. But I am meant to have these 3 days available to them?
I hate this. I went into healthcare because I want to help people and am just getting screwed by companies who only care about profits and not the patients/there employees.
and to top it all off, they keep on hiring new team members? when I know there are at least 3 people in the job who want more work? WHY ARE YOU HIRING MORE! It doesn't make sense to me??
p.s I have tried to offer help get referrals/book them in but my boss told me it's not apart of my role and leave it up to them.
Also I am moving in a month so theres no point trying to get a new job, but otherwise I would leave in a heartbeat.
Please don't roast me I am a new grad trying to navigate my way in this world, I work hard and know I am good at what I do. I just hate showing up to work only to be told 'oh go home' and not get payed for 2 days when I was ready and available to work.
