I will only be hired for a WFH job if I attend a superspreader conference

A little background info first – I am a secondary caretaker for relatives who are extremely high risk. Although I am typically healthy, I had a pretty bad case of long-mono after a mono infection around ten years ago, so I have reason to believe a mild COVID infection may not be so mild for me. Luckily enough, I was able to self-employ for the past year after finishing college. However, that pay isn't sustainable, so I decided to look for a virtual job to protect myself and my family. The second interview I had led to a job offer. There was one condition for me starting this job though – I had to attend an in-person conference. When I explained my situation and asked to attend virtually, I was told that they “would allow people to wear masks and would provide hand sanitizer,” but I had to be there.…

When I explained my situation and asked to attend virtually, I was told that they “would allow people to wear masks and would provide hand sanitizer,” but I had to be there.

First, I thanked them for their permission to protect my lungs. This was an incredibly kind gesture that I couldn't ignore. Then, perhaps excessively, I praised them for their plan to kill the airborne virus by squirting hand sanitizer into the air. This was a brilliant idea that I had not yet considered.

I'm still amazed at their preparedness to combat a potential superspreader event, so I have not yet accepted the job, but their overwhelming concern for my health has sealed the deal!
