My boss's boss had a meeting to define team values. One of those values was passion. He asking what would prevent people from being passionate. Guess who said the quiet part out loud?
I've got coworkers who actually pushed back on me when I said trying to pretend we don't do our job for money is not realistic. I love what I do. I'm driven to do well in my field. I'm actually one of the few that recieved a raise and a promotion. The raise still had me 30% lower than the industry average.
I'm hearing from multiple sources that on average raises and salary prospects are 30% below average across the board. That's not the way to keep people motivated especially when inflation is 7% + year after year. My promotion is really a cost of living adjustment.
It also boggles my mind that the leadership training that's provided by my company is telling me it's better to leave the company for better pay. At least they are honest about it?
As a veteran on the team, I have more leeway than most to speak freely. I've seen time and time again where passion is an excuse to take advantage of other people. I WILL say the quiet part out loud because if no one will, everything will remain the same.
You want my passion. You pay for my passion.
