You're a boomer. You walk into whatever store/factory you see, give the manager a firm handshake, say “One job, please!” and he looks down past the resume you're holding and sees you're wearing shoes. Congratulations! Here's your union job, a big stack of money, and don't worry that you can't tie them because they'll deliver the moon to train you to be able to do everything the job requires. Now go buy that house, you rascal you!
You're a millennial/zoomer. You can't just go into a place anymore, especially one of the major companies that are eating away at the job market like an overzealous Pac Man. You need to apply online and hope to hell the AI Omnisssiah that reviews your application grants you mercy because it detected enough of the good words, the company approved words, in your resume and cover letter and filled in resume sections of their website so you can finally, at long last, get that email saying they decided to go with someone else instead. Try having a masters as a fetus or being born rich, moron.
This is complete bullshit as it is, but the cherry on top is that you're paying for it. Many people can, at least for now, afford internet and everything else in life, but that number is dwindling. As long as it's required that you apply for work online, there should be a public option for it that does not eat away into what little finances you have when looking for a job. You shouldn't have to pay for the pleasure of jumping through rings of fire to please AI and management enough that they'll toss you pennies to do more.
Companies have spent so much time and money to make things easier for themselves, hence the AI reviewing applications, but the very notion that something could be slightly convenient for the job seeker, the average person, a flesh and blood being with no fat stacks of cold cash and not an abstract entity, is unthinkable in the modern world. For whatever reason, companies like to use convenience as a marketing tool but don't think it's good to actually make things convenient.
And that's just for people who can afford internet. For someone who's too poor, or even homeless, they're effectively barred out of the job market because of this. Their options are to go to the library if they're able to, in what hours it's open, and then leave and effectively be voiceless in the modern world. The people who need this utility the most have the least access to it.
I can go on about other things, such as the increasing integration of internet and schooling that creates a sort of generational punishment for poor and homeless people, but I think the point is made clear.
They say people don't want to work anymore. Many don't outright, many don't want to work for you, many want to work but in a self actualizing job….but many people might still be interested in working but can't because you are too lazy to use that white spheres in your skull to scan a piece of paper and hire someone rather than leaving it to an AI so dumb, you'd want to slap Alan Turing for dare suggesting a machine could actually think.
