“If your main concern is monetary compensation and not the mission, this company may not be for you”

I've never posted here, but had a company meeting yesterday that's giving me red flags and also just…baffled especially while we are still in a pandemic. We had a meeting where questions are asked to the top heads of the company. The biggest questions were around compensation and the revolving door feel of the company. The CEO eventually basically said that those who are more focused on compensation than the mission of the company, the company might not be for them. We're in a hyper inflated market, people are still reeling from possibly being laid off in 2020/2021, people should be preparing for a terrible recession. This company is located in one of the most expensive cities in the US. Compensation matters. If I had to move to work here, I'd have never even looked back because I couldn't survive in that city with what I make. My current city?…

I'm all for wanting a nice list of employees who love the mission, love helping people, especially in healthcare, but pay has not and is not keeping pace with COL. You all know this. I'd argue even the people cresting 100k a year likely should be compensated more. My sister was making almost 1/2 of what she should've been making at a job for her responsibilities. It's a joke. I'm sorry, but the jobs that retain people most usually have good culture, good pay, etc. It's a reason why even in minimum wage type jobs, stores that pay better and have great insurance tend to retain employees longer. These jobs can miss me with the “You should care about our mission”. Fuck your mission. I need to survive. This is simply a job I have until nursing school. I'm trying to pay down debt and just get myself settled so I can help my sister get a house in coming years. If I don't get into nursing school, I'm absolutely looking elsewhere. I'm scared the writing is on the wall.

If this is the wrong sub, please let me know.
