I've been working in a labor union for a distribution center for 3.5 years. It's all seniority based, but the turnover rate is 267% (literally according to our last quarterly meeting) I work 5-6 days a week, 8-12 hours for 5 of those days and 8 hours on my day off if I get forced in. I work every weekend and will continue to for a good 8-9 years based on what I've seen from the seniors, especially with the turnover keeping me stagnant in the bottom 30%. I have excellent health insurance but my partner is also in a union with even better health insurance. I've tried very hard to be pro union and I still am but I don't believe this union is for me. I've looked for similar job types and I've found some, one of which called to set up an interview. It's closer, a small pay cut, and I'm sure the insurance costs more, but being married I'm banking on my partners insurance to be the primary. I guess what I'm really saying here is what would you do if you're job was “good” but you were still absolutely miserable?
