so i’ve been working at this small restaurant for only 2 months so far. i’m a waitress and we get paid about $13 an hour. i’m supposed to keep tips that the customers give. whether it goes to me or whether i split it with my coworker.. i’m supposed to leave with my tips. but i don’t. i thought the minimum wage made up for the tips but no i was wrong. i found out it’s illegal for my boss to keep the tips regardless.
i asked my coworker what happens to the tips that we put in the tip jar? (because i know my boss won’t tell me the truth) and she told me that the boss keeps them and at the end of the year she gives it to us as a bonus… and we split it with the guys in the kitchen… the cooks are in the back of the house they aren’t supposed to get tips smh. what kind of bs is that. i don’t believe any of it. i know she’s keeping them. i’m gonna leave this job soon but until then i’m doing half ass work, calling out if i feel like it tomorrow, and showing up late i really don’t care about this job. this place is short staffed too so i’m not gonna help someone who’s stealing from me
