Antiwork

I’m one of TWO techs in this company who is willing to/work(ing) in our oldest plant.

My predecessor worked here 12 years, three different companies. I’ve been here under two. In that time he has left the building for our main complex with the rest of our team 30 minutes away (our GM is a controlling maniac). I have thus been thrown into an assload of paperwork (my previous position has ZERO), all of his responsibilities and monthly checks, and was left here in a 400,000 square foot building for five months before they found a guy(my buddy from production) to actually join our team. Our company is not at all competitive in wages locally. I have received ZERO in compensation, titles, or benefits. They will not make me a “lead” for my title and have even tried lying about what my predecessor made to keep me quiet. I wasn’t dumb and found out before he left. My bosses have been okay, they never come to…

My bosses have been okay, they never come to my plant, all three of my bosses have been here once collectively in six months. So I’m entitled to work my way with no one in the building being able to tell me differently. As a maintenance man, no helicopter bosses is a HUGE pro to work for me.

I can’t get these people to understand why I should get a raise and title change. The current excuse is, “you’ll get your next raise at your 2 year mark” I’m 25, and not exactly well versed in corporate, bureaucratic bullshit. I work to keep my name out of people’s mouths and not make waves as to limit the bullshit I have to deal with. I just don’t want to have to threaten my job in order to get what is rightfully mine. My predecessor’s salary would change my life right now.

How do I approach this? My predecessor refuses to return until GM leaves or gets canned. Other than my buddy who I’m currently training I am the ONLY tech in this company willing to work here in this location. I am the only other person trained on the machines we use here that they sent my predecessor across the country for a two week class to learn.

I have other irons in the fire, but I do enjoy my work and the security I have here. Downtime is PRICEY here and I know they’d never just can me due to the dumpster fires that starts every two hours here.

Just want some advice so when my yearly review, in May, gets here I can come with ammunition when they inevitably try to undervalue my work here.

Thank you all in advance. Have a good Monday.
