Hello everyone,
I've been following this subreddit for a while now and reading numerous of the stories posted here.
The majority of those stories (I saw) seemed to come from the US.
I'm quite shocked how absolutely soul crushing some of those posts are, trapped in a loop endless overtime or superior who don't give a damn about their employees.
I'm from western Europe myself, of course we have quite a few issues too. In my case I have issues with my colleagues and my boss being a pain in the a**, which is why I'm quitting by the end of July. Because I just can't take the ungrateful behavior anymore and the fact that I'm treated like a child which can't do anything by my boss, even though I do most of the work – I'm 24 btw and I worked here for over 3 years.
Anyway, how is it possible that things in the US are that bad even though it is considered such a free country “Land of unlimited possibilities” yada yada.
Whilst we in Europe have stuff like 4-5 weeks PTO, guaranteed by law and theoretical unlimited sick leave. In my country we have institutions who aid employees if they have trouble with work, like if the employer fires you unjustly or stuff like that. I believe I don't even need to mention stuff like free/affordable healthcare. I to this point have never understood why people want to move to the US so badly. It just seems like a horrible place to work, for a first world country that is.
As I said don't get me wrong, in Europe we have also a problem with burnouts, possibly no retirement for younger people and underpaid jobs but compared to the US I'm honestly ashamed of complaining about my work conditions.
Please don't mistake this for US-bashing, I just honestly can't wrap my head around it how bad it is in some regards. I wish you all that is getting better, noone no matter which country deserves to be treated like a slave at work.
