I dont want to get to specific, so I’ll just say I work with animals. Im new to this field so Im still learning and I make mistakes. My boss is slowly teaching me the ins and outs of the field and Im slowly learning more and more over time.
My problem is the pay and coworkers.
My job does not pay a livable wage and Im constantly struggling. My coworkers are mean spirited and catty. I’ve endured alot of passive aggressive behavior, lots of snapping, lots of disrespect and eyerolls. Coworkers talking bad about each other the moment the other isnt there, lots of gossip, lots of unprompted trauma dumping. Everything I do elicits an angry or annoyed response. It happens so often over so many stupid things, it’s overwhelming to talk about. I also fear getting more specific because I know they use reddit.
There is no HR.
Also everyone here is anti vaxx for some reason? Me and my boss are the only people who are vaccinated. Its a small company of 5 people who share a small space, and frequently come in contact with customers. I dont get it.
I’ve been trying to endure it because it was my only option after being unemployed for so long, but I cant do it anymore. I just can’t. I need to leave, but I worry about a couple things.
- if I start applying to places, and they call my current employer for reference, will that make the bullying worse?
- What reason can I give them for leaving? I hate this place but I need the reference and work experience for my resume so badly. As much as i hate then I cant afford to piss them off
I guess I need an exit strategy.
I just feel so discouraged. I dont know what to do. Ive never been treated like this before.
