I’m using up my PTO, then quitting. Should I give a Two-Week Notice or just resign immediately?

I’ve been with this company for one year on April 1st. I’ve enjoyed my time for the most part, but I’m actively interviewing for remote positions with other companies. I am confident that I will be offered a position by most, if not all of the companies that I’ve arranged interviews with. So, I gave my boss notice that I’ll be taking one week off at the end of this month (my PTO will not be paid out if I quit, so I need to use it up). Here’s where I’m stuck… My boss has terminated employees upon receiving a two week notice from them. This, alone, makes me want to skip the formalities and just resign from my position pretty much immediately after coming back from my paid vacation, and giving my new employer an earlier start date. OR, I can give a two-week notice, give my new employer…

This, alone, makes me want to skip the formalities and just resign from my position pretty much immediately after coming back from my paid vacation, and giving my new employer an earlier start date.

OR, I can give a two-week notice, give my new employer a later start date, risk being terminated in the meantime, and file for unemployment (which would be drastically less that what I’m being paid).

Additional Context: I am a Medical Assistant at a high-end Aesthetics Clinic. The previous employees that were terminated after providing a two-week notice were our main Nurse Practitioner and an Administrative Assistant, both had devoted their time to the company for 3-5+ years…. This is why I am so hesitant to even give a two-week notice. I have never in my life quit WITHOUT two week notice. In fact, every time I’ve resigned in previous roles, it was requested that o stay for an additional week-month and I complied! However, my current boss/the owner of the clinic seems to be pretty insensitive and I don’t want to risk my own finances just to follow formalities.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks so much!
