Antiwork

In the US my employer can legally make me work 16 hours for a split shift with 7 hours until my next shift and there’s nothing I can do about it.

So even in a state like Oregon, if your employer asks you to work a split shift and still come in for your shift the following day, you must comply or else you will be fired and have no legal authority to take action against your employer. Here is an example. Let's say I find a job that wants to pay me $17 an hour while most places are only paying $13 an hour in my area. Obviously I would take the job since I cannot live off of $13 an hour in Oregon. Theres a catch though; this job will not hire me unless I sign a form that allows them to MAKE me work split shifts (two shifts in one day which could equate to 16 hours total), while also only giving me around 7 hours to rest until my next shift. Now Oregon labor laws demand that…

Now Oregon labor laws demand that an employer must give employees a minimum of 10 hours of rest after a split shift has been worked… UNLESS the employee has consented to working during his/her rest time.

Why is this how labor laws work in the US? Nobody is CONSENTING to this kind of shit. The only reason a worker would allow such treatment is because the worker needs the pay in order to live to begin with.

This kind of law is akin to claiming that a burglar is putting a gun to my head saying, “you will die if you do not give me your wallet,” and then the cops saying that I “consented” to giving the burglar my wallet because I “agreed.” Even though disagreeing to it would have cost me my life.

What is up with US labor laws? How are these supposed to protect workers at all??? No worker is “consenting” to this shit. Give me a break. Please tell me I am misunderstanding these laws.
