I need your take on this situation at work. I work as IT for a local school district. Yesterday I was delivering two rolling speakers to another school. Think of two pieces of rolling luggage. The entrance to our building is a ramp with two bay doors. The ramp/door situation is steep especially in the rain. I forgot the keys to my car and took the speakers down the ramp because the neighborhood is not very good. I saw the UPS driver coming and I was going to drop the items at the bottom of the ramp and go back up to open the door. The UPS driver banged on the door and said, “Why the fuck did you let the door close?” I open the door and loudly tell him, “He can’t talk to me that way.” I then say, “This is a school you can’t use that kind of language.” I tell him, “I want his name and his supervisors name.” I file a complaint with his supervisor and think nothing of it. Later that day I see the third in line at the school district talk to my boss. My boss tells me I had no right to act like that and it was unprofessional. I tell him I have had it. I am overworked and underpaid and I move more IT then work on IT. I tell him I’m tired of the passive aggressive treatment by teachers and staff. I tell him I’m looking for a new job, because I just don’t fit in here. I say I’m outraged they get mad at me for being yelled and cursed at in the parking lot because I raised my voice. I need a third party’s opinion did I do the right thing?
