Today, we received and “inflation adjustment” of 4.5% while inflation was listed both by the US Gov and in the CEO's email at 9.1%. There are a whole host of excuses, but it also looks so common. Why both connecting it to inflation if it is not a similar number?
Moreover, CPI's 9.1% number is largely driven by the shelter component – which notes rent increases at 1.3% Rent is up 17%., making CPI low by a couple of percentage points.
I've spoken with others and hear “inflation adjustments” typically falling between 0%-6%, with an outlier at 7.2% (which included a union deal that next year's adjustment would be locked at a maximum of 4.5%.)
What do we do?
