Currently I live in the northeast of the US specifically in a HCOL area known for it's income inequality. I'll probably move once I can save up to do so.
I've applied for at least a few hundred jobs since April and out of desperation just took a retail job paying minimum wage because I'm about to be completely broke.
I've had professional experience with recruiting so I doubt interviewing is my problem and my resume has been professionally reviewed as well. I can understand if it's a “personality fit” problem but I generally can get along with most people (in a work setting) so I doubt that's really an issue.
Am I salty about not being hired? Maybe…but these jobs aren't even offering anything great so I'm confused why it's so hard to get hired. The pay for most of them is like $35k-$40k and they're asking for people with a few years experience and a Bachelor's degree. The last one I interviewed at was underpaid AND didn't have any health insurance. Still didn't get hired (and me being anti-work it was definitely the least shittiest place I've interviewed at, so yeah I might be a bit salty).
Edit: to give you a point of reference, you're likely living check to check or can't really save up more than a few hundred a month if you make this much in my location
Having my own apartment is pretty much out of the question rn because of my income and bad credit. But to rent a room I'll need at least $1,000 a month, anything less and 98% of the places I've seen are dumps in sketchy areas. And from personal experience of actually living in one, it's fucking traumatic. Which leads me back to my original question of why there's so much competition? I guess people could want these jobs if they weren't paying rent, but otherwise who tf wants to struggle like this unless they actually have to. (I have no family or friends I can stay with unfortunately).
Overall I feel trapped in this dystopian ass state and wanted to post this to see if anyone can relate.
