interview question response

US resident I just had a zoom interview and in it, the interviewer nonchalantly asked me my age and if I had kids. I know it's not allowed to be asked (discrimination against elderly and or parental figures, etc) but I answered anyway. For future reference, what is an eloquent way of saying you can't ask me that and I'm not comfortable answering?
