Interviewing for jobs while working

Presently work 45hours a week, from 8-430 including a Saturday shift. We don’t take lunch breaks, no benefits, no OT. It’s an easy enough job doing administrative work but am currently looking for a position with benefits and more structure Anyway, I applied to a position where the employer asked if I wanted to interview sometime the following week. I gave him my availability and he responded with “I can interview at 7:45 or 12:30 and if those days don’t work for you, I wish you well.” Does the employer expect me to just show up to my current job late or leave in the middle of a shift for an interview? I’m baffled.
