Is anyone else having problems getting trained properly at new jobs? It feels like the new standard.

At two separate jobs, I faced little to no training and was then expected to perform full job duties and sometimes more. My most recent example is that I was hired by a wireless phone provider. When I was hired I was provided with offline modules to complete, but wasn't given information on when to have any of it completed by, if it was okay to start immediately, or even who my contacts were in the company. Out of fear, I had completed nearly all of the modules before my first day of work. I was then instructed for approximately 20 hours over live webinars in a group setting with PowerPoint presentations. I was then sent to work in the stores, where I was supposed to receive hands on training. The store manager hasn't sat side-by-side with me in any capacity, and due to it being a slow time for…

I was then sent to work in the stores, where I was supposed to receive hands on training. The store manager hasn't sat side-by-side with me in any capacity, and due to it being a slow time for the store right now, I have seen maybe 30 clients over 3 weeks, most of them with technical or billing questions. I have been asked over the last week if I'm ready to “Take the wheel.”.

Hell no I'm not ready to take the wheel. There's no sandbox environment to practice with any of the software, the manager's only attempt at training me was having me make up my own examples for billing, and then to come up with the proper numbers.

It's starting to make me feel a bit crazy. Am I being unreasonable? Feel free to share your stories if you have any.

Thanks!

Edit: For clarification, my only side by side time with the manager has been when a customer comes in that he has to take. I sit and listen, but receive little to no instruction. Can't expect the guy to stop mid sale to teach, but what about the other 7 hours of the day?
