The majority my job is done in some kind of MS Office tool. So, I decided to learn VBA (a MS Office “programming” language) that automates tasks between outlook, excel, access, etc.
Nowadays, I am able to just send myself an email with a specific phrase (I.e runcodexyz), and it will run some code from my laptop (even if I’m not there, as long as outlook is open on the computer at my house) to compete a specific task that someone has asked, or to run an hours worth of reports, while I just sit there watching tv or playing video games (because I work from home), even when I’m not at my own house.
This has freed up so much of my work day…and at times I feel guilty…but I am doing 100%+ of the work I am supposed to do each week, so it’s not like I’m slacking, right?
