Is it normal for companies to expect employees to clock in 50 plus hours every week for three months straight to meet deadlines?

Just asking cos no one has opposed it in my place and makes me think am I the only one isn't okay with this strict rule on always checking on employees time. I recently joined so this has taken me aback.
