Is it normal for companies to take a month to onboard you?

I was fired on the 29th of April, Then “Hired” on the 13th of May but my official starting date is June 6th lol. I've been a temp for the past 3 years and during Covid I got to skip interviews while also starting right away. I'm just unfortunate when it's time to be directly hired I end up getting screwed over. I know my financial issues aren't the companies problem but damn having to wait nearly a month hit my wallet hard, I'm also banned from EDD for lying since I voluntarily quit and not fired. I was making $1400 a month at the time and EDD was paying $3400 a month.
