is it normal for your boss to expect you to give 2 weeks notice for simply missing a shift?

i understand the need for a 2 week notice for resignation, but not for not being able to come into work on a certain day. for context, this is my first job and i asked my manager if i could miss my shift two days ahead because my family had to drive to another city to pick a family member up from the airport who we haven't seen since before covid. she said no and that i need to give at least 2 weeks notice for when i need to miss a day of work. i'm in a casual position so this seems strange? it'd be more understandable if i was part time or full time, but i also work at a large retail chain where there's dozens of people in my department who could cover for me. what are your thoughts?
