Feel like this is the best audience to ask on Reddit and I was curious to get peoples thoughts.
A few months back there were a few news reports (UK) around servers and tips. It appeared some big chains were taking a share of the tips when a customer adds the tip on the card reader. I also found out from a friend who worked at a little local cafe that the tips paid in cash (there is a little jar next to the till) all go to the boss and not the servers.
I, like I assume many people on this sub, feel any tip I give belongs to the staff the tip is not a reflection on the company it’s on the staff as the company have done nothing extra except earn my business.
Would servers consider it rude if I asked them where the tips go prior to leaving one?
