is the 1% REALLY only 1%?

I was wondering if the 1% is actually only 1% and what it means for the working people. Professions like influencing are making swarms of people rich, more people are buying up in real estate etc etc. I googled how many people in the UK earn over 100k, couldn't find many useful answers. Tried a different search to find that something like 1. 2 million people or 4% of WORKING people earned over 100k. By working people I assume that means people doing a job for a salary and doesn't include people earning through passive income. My old manager used to drive a porsche to work (as a restaurant manager mind) which is an 80k car. I live in a wealthy area but I don't think people earning only 100k (take home between 70-80k) are really spending on 80k cars? A years wage? Or the several million pound properties that…

Or the several million pound properties that are all over London and the South East?

Maybe it's just my location giving me an inaccurate POV, but is the 1% really only 1%? Could there be way more people making riches than we think by now? And if that number continues to rise will that mean poverty will become even more inescapable for us? The cost of living crisis has hit me really hard.

It just makes me sad for the people around me because everyone works and works and works.. I work with disabled people who have £5 left at the end of the week and mobility and intellectual issues still doing a physical job.

Edit: I'm not conflating 100k with the 1%, that was just an ambiguous number that I researched bc we're all told its a lot of money.
