I spent my whole childhood surrounded by adults who hated their jobs and spent almost all their time outside of work complaining about work. Even at a young age I knew that wasn't going to be for me.
Recently I found my ideal job. I work 4 hours a day in a unionized warehouse position. It has full benefits coverage and negates the need for a gym membership because I'm working out the whole time I'm there. If I finish all the work early I can leave and still get paid the full 4 hours, I have yet (almost a year in) to work a single full 4 hour shift.
When I started the wage was low, then I got two federal wage bumps and negotiated my way into a third. The wage is now on the top end of fair. The union is currently negotiating our contract, which will result in another bump in the early fall and then my annual raise in the late fall will put me at 5 wage increases in a year.
Paradise found.
