Job can’t accommodate a simple request

So: I work at a school with special needs kids, school year just started, asked my bosses if I could work with the some of the same kids from last year as we got along well (asked several times), and they still didn’t accommodate the request. Mind you, I’m the only one there who hasn’t missed a day in over a year and this year they gave me a student who scratches and hits me so I had hoped they’d let me work with at least one of my previous special needs students. Plus, I am bilingual and this school is primarily Hispanic so I’m made to translate and interpret at their request without extra pay.

This is stressful because special needs students have a lot of accommodations required by law and having to translate legal information is a huge liability for me. The only reason I work at this job is because of the bonds I can build with the kids. Seeing them learn life skills is great to watch. However, if I can’t get a simple request granted then why am I here? Definitely not for my coworkers. We are short staffed so I’m going to let them know that I will leave if I can’t get this one request granted (I’ll put it in less threatening terms). They can’t afford to lose more people so I am going to strike now while we are still understaffed.

And, no, this isn’t an empty threat. I WILL quit if they can’t do this one thing. As my schedule stands right now, I’ll essentially be getting paid $13 an hour to get beat up by students so I’d hope they could give me one or two of my students from last year to balance that, but if not, I’d rather focus on my upcoming college semester (studying to be a teacher) instead of working somewhere like this…
