This is a long story and I’ll try to keep it short.
My side gig is in the fitness industry as a social media manager and instructor for a studio. This studio was recently bought by my disorganized married managers. I’ve never gotten along with them and mostly stayed because of the past owner who originally hired me 4 years ago as an instructor. She then promoted me to social media in 2021.
There’s been a long list of horrible things I have overlooked and tolerated but messing with my pay is the biggest thing to piss me off.
I had to beg for a raise back in January because I was putting in so many hours and I wanted better compensation (also I had been in that position for a whole year with no raise). They unwillingly gave me it to me but asked for more work outside of my original responsibilities. I obliged.
Now, after I asked for a raise my pay had been delayed multiple times but it was usually fixed within a few days (I get paid every month at a flat rate btw). Jump forward to the “new” owners and the first payday under them is delayed. I just received my check and it’s 10 days over due.
I’m beyond angry. I didn’t plan any social content for them in July yet because I had not been compensated for June. No pay, no work. I don’t work for free or out of the kindness of my heart. On 4th of July they start texting me and asking where the content is. I write them an email explaining that there is no content and why. Cue the aggressive email and my new boss wrote “but I never imagined that you would stop working because you did not get paid”… I audibly laughed. Are they serious?!
I have a call with them tomorrow and I will fully out all of their bad behavior and most likely quit. Any further advice? I’ve taken photos and videos for content in the past. Should I delete those from the shared drive?
Some other notes:
– I plan the content a week in advance, so once I realized my pay was delayed, I did not plan content for the 1st week of July. I planned to resume normally once I received my check for June.
– These managers have screamed at me for having a migraine and not being able to teach a class with 1 person in it.
– They’ve expected me to take out advertisements & development relationships with other business… that ain’t social media projects.
– They never filed the right form during the pandemic for my unemployment when it was my sole incoming, so I never received it. My other coworkers got unemployment.
