Job I’m applying to reached out to non-supervisor from old job

I recently left a company I had been with for 8 years because of a toxic manager in a different department who I had to interact with constantly. I was midway through the interview process with a vendor company that my former employer also does business with. I just found out that they reached out to the toxic person at my old company to ask about me. And she went to HR about it! So this explains why I had a very good interview, guy sounded excited, then radio silence. This other manager joined in March and wasn’t even my supervisor. Now not only has she cost me one job, but potentially another. Is there anything I can do about this? Should I contact HR at former employer / her current employer? I was midway through the interview process with a vendor company that my former employer also does business with. I just found out that they reached out to the toxic person at my old company to ask about me. And she went to HR about it!

So this explains why I had a very good interview, guy sounded excited, then radio silence.

This other manager joined in March and wasn’t even my supervisor. Now not only has she cost me one job, but potentially another.

Is there anything I can do about this? Should I contact HR at former employer / her current employer? Should I reach out to the new company to try to damage control?

My former supervisor, who told me about the HR reach out today, told me to look elsewhere but I’m the one here without a current job. And I was excited about that role.
