Job is vaguely threatening to fire me because I can’t make USCIS process my application quickly enough lmao

What counts as sufficient legal forms of identification that can be provided to an employer? I am a “legal permanent resident”, have been for about 2 years now. I moved away last year and lost my wallet a couple of times lol, so I lost my state ID first and then my green card ID (which I resorted to using to get into bars lol) and have been using my birth country passport (it’s just been a chaotic last year because of the bicoastal living situation I was in). The state I was living in had some rigorous identification documentation requirements to get an ID in said state, which included my having my green card present to show in leu of a birth certificate since I’m not a citizen. Anyways long story short, I hate filling out USCIS forms and have just put it off forever. There’s a 600 fee…

There’s a 600 fee attached to this stupid replacement card application which I find so absurd after the almost 15,000 the feds have already squeeze out of me via immigration bureaucracy, I’m not fucking kidding.

I just moved back to the state I was formally living in and my employer is insisting I show them a physical copy of my green card despite having provided them scanned copies of my state ID, my green card, AND my USCIS green card approval letter. All of this was provided to them via a forwarded email from my immigration lawyer who had provided me with these documents for me to apply for a green card replacement last year.

I just finished requesting a new state ID online with should be here in a couple of weeks but just find it weird she insists on seeing a physical green card when in the past I’ve only been asked to provide a state ID and SSN. As far as I know my other co workers also just had to provide their state ID and SSN.

I take responsibility for my shortcoming here in getting my ID shit figure out in a timely manner but fr if you’ve never had to deal with home land security as an immigrant, thank your lucky stars. These mfs had their boot on my neck for YEARS with fees and applications and more fees and more paperwork.

I also ironically work in a very self proclaimed woke “liberal”business, the actual customer facing workers all unionized in the beginning of the pandemic, rightfully so. Unfortunately I work in the office of said business so I’m not part of the union but the business itself claims to be very liberal, blah blah.

This is the response I got from my supervisor after I explained that I apologize for the delay but it’s really out of my hands how quickly USCIS handles my I-90 application and also explaining there was a delay involved in the actual submitting of the application because my apartments bathroom had to be completely demo’d due to plumbing issues and I basically had to fork out a months worth of hotel stays in the main downtown area of the city I live in bc I needed to be close to my apartment for logistical reasons. I have been waiting for the renters insurance reimbursement to pay for the app since I also just had to pay rent and other bills now that my bathroom is done.

This was her response:

*”Thanks for the update. I understand bureaucracy, but as I also explained, it's not about me or my choice- I personally don't have any issues waiting, but the business is what's critical here and we have to follow employment laws. If you can make an appointment for the stamp, that would be great. I know that's a hassle and one more thing, but we like having you here and want you to stay. But if you can’t resolve this in a timely manner, we’ll have to part ways.

We physically have to see the identification for employment, so perhaps others have taken Washington ID and Social Security. I need to see them. Can we set April 30th as a date to make sure you have both in hand and not temporary?”*
