I work as a construction inspector. 3 years working through covid with minimal support and a dollar raise is the cherry on top, going from zero experience to being asked to handle projects all on my own. Whenever I bring up the fact I'm not happy with my pay they counter with the typical “you're an integral part of the team” bullshit and how “raises come to those who are movers and shakers” and that I need something to show to justify a raise like taking more pointless certification courses or some other waste of my time. Honestly they could give me a $20 raise and I'd still tell them to shove it at this point. I really hate the desk jockeys here that drive Teslas and work from their nice homes while I drive a 20 year old junker and live in a roach infested apartment. All I think about while I'm on the job is how little I care and how I'd rather eat lead than be here working for a slave's wage. The only thing keeping me from leaving is having to pay bills to not be homeless. A lot of people have told me to get into bartending as I'm a good conversationalist and a night owl and I think I'm going to go for it.
I've never filed for unemployment before and I seriously need some time off for my mental health, I've spiraled pretty deep into depression. How could I go about doing this? I live in North Carolina by the way.
