So about a year ago, to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday, my sister and I surprised her with a cruise to the Greek Isles. We are Greek and my mother has never been, and its been a dream of hers. My sister has a husband and kids and can't go, so I will be accompanying my mother on this cruise which is next month.
After my last employment fiasco which you can read about here, I've been hitting the job boards hard. After several weeks of interviewing at Disney, including them not showing up to my final interview yesterday, just me staring at myself in the Microsoft Teams meeting for 15 minutes waiting, they extended an offer to me this morning anyways. $36/hr contract to hire, no health, no PTO, no nothing except the hourly rate. I accepted. They wanted the start date to be the first day of the cruise three weeks from now, because they wanted to do a background check and drug test (a test which I strongly object to on all grounds). I told them that I will be needing two weeks off starting the 9th but I can start as early as this Monday if need be. Because I won't be getting the vacation paid, I didn't see how it could be anything but a minor inconvenience for them, and during the extensive interview process they never asked about any potential upcoming time off.
They then asked me to either postpone the cruise or cancel it. I let out a little bit of a laugh at the sheer absurdity and told them that this cruise was purchased a year ago and cannot be altered and they immediately rescinded the job offer.
Good luck, Disney.
Edit: I do want to state that I am not disappointed in not getting this job. This was my last choice in all the jobs I’ve been interviewing for, and then not showing up to the final interview yesterday and then asking me to cancel my trip does not impress me.
