Ive frequented a job in my area multiple times (5 or 6 i think). I started as a dishwasher and moved up to prep cook then imo Sous chef without the title or pay due to the fact they wanted me to help with the menu and was incharge of running the kitchen when the chef was away or more realistically when nobody except me showed up. Ive quit and come back to help them out multiple times because yes, they gave me a start in the industry and i am thankful for what they have done. The last time i left there i told them i would be leaving for a better paying job and better hours. This was pre pandemic, I was making 13 an hour and working from 11 to 11 and making a change to 14 and hour and 6am to 2pm. Now imo if they really wanted me to stay they would of made an effort to keep me. Instead they let me go and afterwards i hear from people still working there “oh the boss said he was just about to give you a raise and promotion” yeah sure. Fast forward to this week 4 years later mind you, i get a text from the bartender “hey, the boss is struggling and needs cooks are you available, she will pay you good and we close early now” Miss me with that bs, all that means is the minimum wage has gone up so instead of 13 id be getting 16, big fuckin whoop. I slaved for this person on multiple stints and watched as people who were getting 25 dollars plus to flirt with waitresses and leave early kept getting all the praise. No, not again my tike for being nice is over, never again will i feel bad for these people and come to save them for table scraps. If they paid well in the first place id still be there right? Fuck outta here, rant over 🤣
